Match Report
A Blair Henderson hat-trick inspired Edinburgh City to a 4-1 victory over Elgin City at Ainslie Park today.
With second-place Peterhead’s game postponed due to frost, the win lifts City to five points clear at the top of the Scottish League 2 table.
City opened the scoring after just 21 minutes – Henderson latching on to a ball from former Hearts full-back Craig Thomson to rifle in to the net.
But the home side suffered a scare just after the hour mark when Rabin Omar pulled one back for the visitors.
Just six minutes later and City were back in front though – Allan Smith with a stunning long-range strike in to the top right hand corner.
Henderson then sealed the points and completed his second hat-trick of the season, scoring on 79 and 87 minutes.
Those goals put Henderson on an incredible tally of 24 in all competitions this season with 16 in the league – a record of 88 minutes per goal.
