This week we travel to North Wales to face Connah’s Quay Nomads in the semi-final of the Irn-Bru Challenge Cup.

The Nomads come into the game in fine form having thumped Caernarfon 6-2 this past weekend, on the back of an impressive 3-1 victory away at Carmarthen in the JD Welsh Cup. Sitting at the top of the JD Sports Welsh Premier League, Andy Morrison’s side have the opportunity once again to rub shoulders with Europe’s elite, having previously qualified for the UEFA Leauge in each of the last three seasons. The North Wales outfit can boast a squad full of experienced players including the likes of Michael Bakare and Adam Barton, the latter recently joining on loan from Dundee United.

Connah’s Quay Nomads will play in their home colours, while City will wear their change kit.

ENTRY

Admission prices at the Deeside Stadium will be £10 for adults, £5 concessions.

Our injury list still includes John Dunn, Keiran Stewart and Danny Handling. Both Jack Breen and Adam Watson are cup-tied however new recruit Ciaran Diver will be in the squad travelling heading for Wales.

PREVIOUS MEETING

Unsurprisingly we have not met the Nomads before; the Welsh side have the opportunity to become the first non-Scottish team to make the final in the history of the Scottish Challenge Cup having beaten two Scottish and one Irish side en route to the final. Their run started back in September with a 1-0 victory over Falkirk thanks to a Michael Wilde header. This setup a tie with Coleraine who visited the Deeside Stadium in October, but goals from Andy Owens and George Horan were enough to see off the NIFL Premier League runners up. Horan was again on the scoresheet in the 2-1 victory over Queen’s Park at Hampden Park, along with Michael Wilde, to setup this weekend’s big semi-final.
