Forfar Athletic took all three points at Station Park following a 4-0 defeat of Edinburgh City. Blair Alston, Craig Slater, Jake Sutherland and former Citizen Stuart Morrison wrote their names on the scoresheet. Emma Russell reports:
Michael McIndoe named a close-to full strength starting eleven for the trip to Forfar following last weekend’s defeat to East Kilbride.
The opening five minutes saw little-to-no action at either ends of the park but Max Guthrie made his way into the box in the 12th minute to give City the first chance of the game. Guthrie’s shot was dealt with by Marc McCallum. This then led to a similar attempt from Forfar’s Jake Sutherland on the counterattack that Mark Weir was equal to.
The 17th minute saw Forfar go ahead through a Blair Alston header.
City replied a matter of minutes later as Innes Lawson took a bold shot from outside of the box but the ball was sent over the bar.
Forfar got their second just before half time. In the 44th minute, Craig Slater shot into an open goal despite the initial efforts of Weir.
Seconds later, a close range effort for a Forfar third from Blair Alston was saved excellently by Weir to end the first half.
The first action of the second half came in the 49th minute. With City on the counterattack, Tiwi Daramola took a stab from the left wing but struggled to find the target.
Blair Aston took aim from the centre of the box in the 56th minute. The attempt was stopped superbly by Weir in the bottom right corner, who injured himself in the process, so an enforced substitution was made. Shea Dowie entered the pitch for his second appearance in a City jersey.
Forfar scored again in the 74th minute. Jake Sutherland took a strike on the rebound and slotted the ball into the bottom left corner to give the home side their third of the day. The fourth Forfar goal arrived in the 88th minute. A header from captain Stuart Morrison put the gloss on the victory for the Loons in the final few minutes.
