Match Report
Our third outing in this season’s BetFred Cup sees us entertain East Kilbride for the second time this season.
OPPONENTS: EAST KILBRIDE
The reigning Lowland League champions head into this game on the back of arguably one of their best results, having held Premiership St Mirren to a draw over 90 minutes last Saturday and then winning on penalites at K-Park. Stuart Malcolm has had a productive pre-season, bringing in several players of note most sigfnificantly the experienced Darren O’ Dea, Danny Carmichael and Ruairi Paton. As well as this, the core of last season’s championship winning side have stayed together and signs point towards another strong season for Kilby, who will be aiming to go one better then last year, where they lost in the SPFL promotion playoff to Cove Rangers.
KITS
East Kilbride will wear their traditional colours of navy and gold halved shirts and City will be wearing…
ENTRY
Admission prices will be £12 for adults, £6 for concessions and under 12s will be free with a paying adult. A cash gate will be in operation as normal.
TEAM NEWS
Albeit it’s pre-season we still have a couple of guys on their way back to fitness, with Keiron Stewart and John Dunn not yet fit enough to feature. Last season’s top marksman Blair Henderson will face a late fitness to deceide whether he will make his first appearence of the season tonight. The only other absentee is Craig Thomson who begins a suspension.
PREVIOUS MEETING
Since promotion to the SPFL this will be the third meeting of the sides, last season City needed a late double from Allan Smith to win 3-2 at K-Park in the Challenge Cup, while only two weeks ago the teams contested the East of Scotland (City) Cup final at the Oriam. City ran out 5-2 winners, however the game was extremely tight in the early stages with Kilby twice in front, before an inexpicable tackle from Darren O’ Dea saw the defender red carded. With both sides coming off the back of brilliant results at the weekend it’s likely to be a very close match tonight.
