Match Report

Robbie Mahon’s brace and a late goal from Kieran Offord help guide Edinburgh City to a 2nd league win of the season as they defeat Alloa Athletic 3-0 at Meadowbank Sports Centre.

It only took until the 12th minute for Edinburgh City to find the opener. Robbie Mahon found space inside before a wonder strike found the ball in the top corner. Just over 10 minutes later the Irishman finds himself through on goal and calmy takes it around the Alloa keeper to double their advantage.

Alloa started to find their feet in the game as they bombarded Edinburgh City’s defence with crosses. However, this was to no avail as Edinburgh’s back line stood strong to keep intact their 2 goal advantage.

With only minutes left in the half Edinburgh City’s Shanley intercepted the ball off of the Alloa defence and finds himself with a chance on goal, but his effort went wide. The half time whistle blew with a Robbie Mahon brace all that was separating the sides.

The second half got underway, and Edinburgh City started brightly when Murray’s low driven cross causes problems for the Alloa defence, but no one was there to provide the finishing touch. As the 2nd half progressed both teams struggled to take control of the game with neither team seriously threatening on goal. This was until a great bit of play spearheaded by Robbie Mahon, gave the winger a chance to get his third of the match. but to his dismay his shot cannoned over the bar.

In the 72nd minute Alloa’s Taggart has a close range shot saved by the keeper which then results in a scramble in the box to keep the ball out of the net. Edinburgh City’s defence remained strong to keep their 2 goal advantage.

As the minutes ran down on the clock Alloa continued to search for their first goal of the match to try and rescue a comeback, but the  Edinburgh City defence stayed strong to keep their 2 goal advantage.

With only minutes left on the clock Kieran Offord went through on goal and cheekily chipped the ball over the Alloa Keeper to make it 3 and secure the win for the home side.
